About Sochu

Tasting Notes

This Honkaku Shochu is distinctive for its lingering sweetness and refined aroma.

This shochu uses the purple Murasaki-Masari sweet potatoes, rich in polyphenols which react with the citric acid generated by the shochu koji to produce a bright red color that gives Aka Kirishima its name.

Japanese Shochu ( 焼酎) is a Japanese distilled beverage. It is typically distilled from rice (kome), barley (mugi), sweet potatoes (satsuma-imo), buckwheat (soba), or brown sugar (kokutō), though it is sometimes produced from other ingredients such as chestnut, sesame seeds, potatoes or even carrots.
